The Maastricht University Scholarship program comprises two types of scholarships:

The High Potential Scholarship funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund, and
The Netherlands Scholarship, which is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science together with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences.

These scholarships are designed for international students from countries outside the EU/EEA who intend to pursue a complete degree program in the Netherlands.

The NL-High Potential scholarship lasts for

Note Please be aware that as part of the Scholarship, Maastricht Housing will provide you with a room at an approximate cost of € 600 per month.

This room will be in the guesthouse and will include shared shower and toilet facilities as well as a communal kitchen. If you opt for a different room, it will affect your monthly allowance.

    Required Language: The use of the English language is essential. English must be employed.
    Countries that are not part of the EU/EEA or Switzerland are considered eligible for this program. In simpler terms, if you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country, Switzerland, or Surinam, and you fulfill the criteria for getting a visa and residency in the Netherlands, then you are eligible.
    You do not possess dual citizenship from an EU/EEA nation.
    You have submitted an application for a full-time Master’s program at Maastricht University for the academic year 2024-2025.

    If you have not been enrolled in a formal academic program in the Netherlands before, you are eligible to apply. After applying through Studielink, you will be assigned a student ID for Maastricht University. This student ID is necessary for filling out and submitting the Scholarship Application Form.
    You should be 35 years old or younger by 1 September 2024, meaning you should not have turned 36 by that date.
    If you fulfill the admission criteria for the Master’s program at UM that you’ve applied for, and if you haven’t previously enrolled in a degree program in the Netherlands, you are eligible to apply. Those who have taken part in exchange programs in the Netherlands are also encouraged to submit an application.
    Your strong academic performance in previous educational programs, as evidenced by your latest grades or academic excellence certification, has been impressive. In the event that multiple applicants have similar qualifications, UM will prioritize those whose academic records place them in the top 5% of all applicants for the 2024-2025 scholarship program.

Please be aware that only the Master’s programs listed are eligible for the UM Holland-High Potential scholarship. You can apply for both the Master’s program and the scholarship at the same time, but you must be provisionally accepted into the Master’s program to receive the scholarship.

Additionally, if your program requires a handling fee as part of the admissions process, you will need to pay this fee by 1 February 2022, as UM International Services Desk does not cover handling fees.

To apply for the scholarship, complete the application form using your UM account, upload required documents in .doc, .docx, or PDF format, and submit.

Make sure all documents and referee details are accurate as you can only submit once. If you have applied to multiple UM programs, the UM International Services Desk will consider your scholarship application for all eligible programs with a conditionally approved or approved admissions status.

The necessary documents include a curriculum vitae (max 2 A4 pages), a tailored letter of motivation (max 1 A4 page), proof of academic excellence, and contact details for a referee.

Ensure the referee is not a family member, provide their work telephone number with country code, and their work/institutional email address.
