The Maastricht University Scholarship 2024-2025 is a fully funded opportunity for international students pursuing a master’s degree. It covers living expenses of € 23,750, health & liability insurance of € 700, visa application costs of € 210, and tuition fees of € 16,800.
The UM NL-High Potential Scholarship program at Maastricht University provides 24 full scholarships worth €30,000 per academic year for exceptionally talented non-EU students who have been accepted into a master’s program at UM, covering tuition fees and a monthly stipend. The Maastricht University Scholarship program comprises two types of scholarships:
The High Potential Scholarship funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund, and
The NL Scholarship, which is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science together with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences.
These scholarships are designed for international students from countries outside the EU/EEA who intend to pursue a complete degree program in the Netherlands.
The NL-High Potential scholarship lasts for
13 months for a one-year master’s program and
25 months for a two-year master’s program.
Scholarship funding for the NL-High Potential program for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Living expenses amounting to €15,925 for 13 months or €30,625 for 25 months are given to students by the UM International Services Desk.
Health and liability insurance costing €700 is provided and covered by the UM International Services Desk.
Tuition fees and Pre-Academic Training costs will be arranged for and paid by the UM International Services Desk at their actual cost.
The UM International Services Desk will handle and cover the expenses of the visa application, which costs €228.
Note Please be aware that as part of the Scholarship, Maastricht Housing will provide you with a room at an approximate cost of € 600 per month.
This room will be in the guesthouse and will include shared shower and toilet facilities as well as a communal kitchen. If you opt for a different room, it will affect your monthly allowance.
The total living expenses covered by the scholarship amount to € 15,925 (€ 1,225 per month) and include the following breakdown (these amounts are subject to change):
- Housing: € 600
- Groceries and personal hygiene: € 160
- Telephone: € 60
- Travel: € 100
- Books and study materials: € 90
- Clothing, hobbies, and social activities: € 125
- Miscellaneous expenses: € 90

Required Language: The use of the English language is essential. English must be employed.
Countries that are not part of the EU/EEA or Switzerland are considered eligible for this program. In simpler terms, if you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country, Switzerland, or Surinam, and you fulfill the criteria for getting a visa and residency in the Netherlands, then you are eligible.
You do not possess dual citizenship from an EU/EEA nation.
You have submitted an application for a full-time Master’s program at Maastricht University for the academic year 2024-2025.

You fulfill the necessary criteria for admission to the Master’s program at UM that you have applied to.
If you have not been enrolled in a formal academic program in the Netherlands before, you are eligible to apply. However, if you have completed a study exchange in the Netherlands, you can still submit an application for consideration. To be eligible, you must be under 35 years old as of September 1, 2024.
If there are multiple applicants with comparable qualifications, preference will be given to those whose academic records place them in the top 5% of the 2024-2025 scholarship program applicants, as evidenced by their outstanding performance in previous educational programs.

Enroll in one of the eligible Master’s programs offered at Maastricht University. To learn more about the registration process for a Master’s program at UM, visit the webpage of your desired program. After applying through Studielink, you will be assigned a student ID for Maastricht University. This student ID is necessary for filling out and submitting the Scholarship Application Form.
You should be 35 years old or younger by 1 September 2024, meaning you should not have turned 36 by that date.
If you fulfill the admission criteria for the Master’s program at UM that you’ve applied for, and if you haven’t previously enrolled in a degree program in the Netherlands, you are eligible to apply. Those who have taken part in exchange programs in the Netherlands are also encouraged to submit an application.
Your strong academic performance in previous educational programs, as evidenced by your latest grades or academic excellence certification, has been impressive. In the event that multiple applicants have similar qualifications, UM will prioritize those whose academic records place them in the top 5% of all applicants for the 2024-2025 scholarship program.

After submitting your application through Studielink, you will receive a student ID number from Maastricht University. You will need this ID number to fill out and submit the Scholarship Application Form.
Please be aware that only the Master’s programs listed are eligible for the UM Holland-High Potential scholarship. You can apply for both the Master’s program and the scholarship at the same time, but you must be provisionally accepted into the Master’s program to receive the scholarship.
Additionally, if your program requires a handling fee as part of the admissions process, you will need to pay this fee by 1 February 2022, as UM International Services Desk does not cover handling fees.

To apply for the scholarship, complete the application form using your UM account, upload required documents in .doc, .docx, or PDF format, and submit.
Make sure all documents and referee details are accurate as you can only submit once. If you have applied to multiple UM programs, the UM International Services Desk will consider your scholarship application for all eligible programs with a conditionally approved or approved admissions status.
The necessary documents include a curriculum vitae (max 2 A4 pages), a tailored letter of motivation (max 1 A4 page), proof of academic excellence, and contact details for a referee.
Ensure the referee is not a family member, provide their work telephone number with country code, and their work/institutional email address.

Kindly make sure all your application documents and referee contact information are current as you can only submit your application once.
Remember to reach out to your referee, who must be a (former) professor, lecturer, or employer (not a family member), and request them to email their reference letter to hhp.scholarship@maastrichtuniversity.nl by midnight on 1 February 2024 (Central European Time).

Ensure the recommendation letters are dated no earlier than February 2022. It is your responsibility to coordinate with your referee to ensure timely submission of their letter, as applications without reference letters will be considered incomplete.
