Opportunity or advantageous chance as a storekeeper at Emera Inc.

They are seeking a Storekeeper Apprentice in their first year, who will be under the supervision of the Regional Stores Supervisor. This role is a temporary, full-time position within the T&D Warehouse Operations team.

Important elements of this position consist of:

(I) Your role as part of the Procurement Team involves overseeing the security and smooth functioning of the storeroom and external warehouse.

(II) You will support all departments in making sure that the necessary materials and tools are prepared and accessible for work.

This role is a crucial component of the Procurement Team based in the Lakeside warehouse. It is responsible for ensuring that receiving inspection controls are followed, suppliers adhere to our quality standards, and that administrative tasks are carried out efficiently and in line with company protocols.

(III) You might be asked to supply information about the amount of materials on hand to help with forecasting budgets and planning tasks.

These responsibilities demand great precision and involve tasks such as receiving, issuing, managing the bin location system, restocking, shipping, packaging, updating systems, delivering, and conducting cycle counts among others.

(IV) You must join in regulatory training and be open to participating in on-the-job training or programs aimed at enhancing your skills.

(V) You may need to offer Stores support during emergency service restoration.

(VI) You may be asked to work in different locations temporarily to help other areas as needed and should be prepared to travel across the province.

(VII) You are required to uphold and enforce all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations to ensure the safety of yourself, your colleagues, and those you supervise.

This role is classified as safety sensitive, so the chosen candidate will need to adhere to the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy. This includes undergoing a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test as outlined in the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

Necessary skills required as a storekeeper

(1) Applicants must have completed Grade XII or have an equivalent education and possess three (3) years of experience in material handling.

(2) You must have a valid NS Drivers License and atleast 2 years of driving experience, as well as a driver’s abstract that meets NSPI’s standards.

(3) Completion of forklift operation certification, as well as training in WHMIS and TDG, is mandatory.

(4) To succeed, you should be a proficient team player with outstanding interpersonal abilities, strong computer skills, and the capacity to manage various tasks and pressures.

(5) Familiarity with Maximo (Materials Management System), Oracle, and Microsoft Office Excel and Outlook would be advantageous.

(6) You must participate in the Warehouse Training Program provided by the Procurement team.

(7) To excel in the Storekeeper position, you need strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated communication abilities, both verbally and in writing.

(8) You must also possess the physical capability to fulfill all duties required for the role.

Requirements for the job and necessary physical skills:

(A) The ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly from the floor to shoulder level is required, with the occasional need to lift up to 77 lbs.

(B) Occasionally, lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs. above shoulder level and carry items weighing between 44-77 lbs. using one or two hands.

(C) Capable of utilizing your entire body weight to either lift or pull up to 100 pounds. May need to engage in activities such as reaching, bending, squatting, and climbing stairs with a variety of neck movements.

(D) Have the capacity to remain on your feet and move around throughout your shift.
